Incontinence in young men
Hi, I’m a 20 yr old man and I’ve been dealing with incontinence. It is extremely embarrassing and concerning since I am only 20. I have very sudden urges to urinate very often (sometimes 2 or 3 times an hour) where I am fine one minute and the next I need to run and pee. I rarely make it to the restroom without a wet spot on my underwear. This makes my daily activities like going to class or commuting very stressful. I am in relatively good health and I am an active person. I’m concerned that this could be a prostate issue, any input would be helpful I would rather not go to the doctor for this. thanks!!!

What does your doctor think about this situation?

Re: Incontinence in young men
Urinary incontinence in young men can occur due to a number of possible reasons, including infections, nerve damage, and prostate problems.
Possible causes
Urinary tract infections: Can cause bladder contractions that lead to urge incontinence
Prostatitis: An infection of the prostate gland that's more common in younger men
Nerve damage: Can occur due to conditions like Parkinson's disease or stroke
Enlarged prostate: Also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), this can cause frequent or urgent urination
Urethral damage: Can occur due to a narrowing or stricture of the urethra
Other medical conditions: Such as diabetes, ischaemic heart disease, or congestive cardiac failure
Treatment
Treatment depends on the underlying cause.
Some lifestyle changes that may help include:
Stopping smoking
Losing weight
Treating constipation
Cutting down on caffeine and alcohol
Drinking plenty of water
