behaviour problems from eczema
hi,my 8yr old son has had e since day after first immunisation at 10wks.I watch as the itch, blood, frustrations and saddness rule our lives day to day .we make surethat he has as stable and happy life but the eczema takes over,we live in tasmania and have seen over 100 docs, specs and naturepaths all over australia none are able to councell us with the psychological effects of e,would you have any suggestions on help in australia and your views on the mental effect of being constantly itchy?.thankyou so much.cass
Re: behaviour problems from eczema
i cant help much as in uk, but i do think it affects them as my 13yr son has confidence problems and sometimes refuses to get up and go to sch, i cant imagine what it is itch all the time, does you son have a high pain threshold for constant pain eg toothache that turns out to b an abess!!! we have come across that several times. we just keep plodding on and try to sort out the next flare up out.
Re: behaviour problems from eczema
pain threshold amazing as always has a sore somewhere thats infected, school a constant struggle, bath in morning a constant struggle as skin so sore, missing days brings being behind means constantly catching up,its all a battle.atleast this morning was semi easy for him,a good day out of many bad makes one more day i hang in there with a glimmer of hope.I have upped his dose of vallergan forte, antihistamine,to 2ml at 6pm,if they can sleep and not itch for a few hours,it helps wounds and minds heal, the emotional turmoil of a teenager with e would be awful and we are dreading it as they have a hard enough time with conf. and identity.I FEEL FOR YOU ALL.
Behavour and Eczema are they linked?
Hi everyone
Im having a few issues with my 13month old daughter. Weather its just her character or its because of her skin and
allergys, but she does not stop! she climbs on tables, chairs, ladders, bikes iltterly eveything. I cant leave any windows
open as she climbs on the window shelf. (in this heat thats not good!) I live in a small flat and im finding it very hard to
protect her from accidents as she is always climbing, even if she cant reach she will make a pile of toys so she can.
I had a hospital appointment today and i couldnt even concentrate on what the doc was says as she was pulling all the files out
trying to get on the desk, ect. I cant use the buggy as she gets out even when iv brought an extra harness to keep her in,
i cant use the high chair, even the car seat she gets out of! i dont know what to do. I have an older child and she was'nt like
this, even tho she was very active like my 13month old. Im scared she is going to have a terrible accident one day.
Is this normal for a second child? i just cant seam to stop her from climbing and running off (yes i do have rains but she gets out
of them!!) Help. or is this a question for my health visitor??
any ideas or tip welcome. im willing to try anything to try and sort out this problem im having.
Thanks Rach X

Re: Behavour and Eczema are they linked?
Can't say that this is linked to skin conditions. Could be due to other things.
Re: Behavour and Eczema are they linked?
Am i right in thinking its not 'normal' behavour for a child of her age? shes been doing this
since she was 8months old. she was climbing before she could walk.

Hi
Contact your health visitor asap. I believe certain behaviours/moods or allowances made by parents around eczema are part of the tough life we live through as families with eczema. Your health visitor should offer some direction and tactics for you.
