Re: Advice needed with baby's treatment
Hopefully they have made an appointment with you now or soon!
With the skin cycle, my son doesn't get the dry flaking skin anymore. Only when I use natural eczema cream instead of the hydrocortison, did I find this happens.
So when he gets is red bumps/patches, I put on the steroid followed by moisturizer, and then the redness/bumps disappears and the skin is still hydrated.
"the other thing i noticed that he wriggles a lot when he is sitting and i can tell that he is itching his back but when i check it , nothing is red or no red spots but it does look a bit dry so it's difficult to know where to put hydrocortison as i can't cover his whole back."
Is the whole back dry? Or you can see patches? I probably would put a thin layer of hydrocortison (that's what I did when my boy did the same thing) but it's totally up to you if you want to wait to see exactly where it affects him. But put it on when you see any redness as you don't want to scratch that further so that it would bleed.
With his forehead being itchy, does he have gloves on?

Re: Advice needed with baby's treatment
I read an article here about natural cleaning products Carpet Cleaning Perth It really helped me because i have a really bad area on my right hand that breaks out in eczema, i noticed that it was getting really bad when i was using certain cleaning products so i changed to all natural products and its not to bad anymore. I started using bicarb soda and white vinegar to clean my carpets, NO MORE ITCHING!
Re: Advice needed with baby's treatment
hi Crossmyfingers
Tomi seems to be doing a bit better, im not sure if it's coz im more relaxed about hydrocortison and put some on almost every day , although not on the same area (except a little patch on his chest and on his lovehandles
just above the nappy line. So he's not had a bat flare for a couple of weeks now. What i'd love to achieve is to be hydrocortison free for at least a day or so....
I also wonder that the spring and more fresh air has also helped him, i guess we'll find out.
he also itches a lot more when he is sitting and wriggles a lot , it's strange as sometimes i look at his back and there is no red spots and no visible dryness or it could be that i can't see it.
i put socks on his hands to avoid scratching his face and head.
Has your little one's cradle cap cleared up?
tomi's head does not flake any more but has dry crusty areas on and also itchy sometimes so i have put hydrocortison on it as well and it seems to help, i have used head and shoulders on his cradle cap and it seems to have helped too.
i even thought about giving his tops a wash with non bio washing powder that has a little bit of fragrance (im using the simply pure hypoallergine)as poor little boy just smells of chemicals so bad from diprobase cream. im really not sure if going all fragrance and chemical free has helped his skin at all but i guess im just too worried going back to them just in case it did make some difference. Have you cut out all the chemicals and fragrance?
i still haven't heard about the hospital so i gues im going to have to call them

Re: Advice needed with baby's treatment
Hi Annamaria,
Yes everything that we put on him is fragrance and enzyme free just because i've read it everywhere
I'm sure you will have those day(s) of without using hydrocortison.. hopefully we all will get there eventually! Fingers crossed
DS doesn't have cradle cap but every now and then, there's a red spot (looks like birthmark) on the back of his head and i would treat it and it goes away the day after, luckily so far it hasn't come back for a few weeks now.
ATM he still has lots of the tiny dots and the hotter he got, the closer they get together so had to put on some steroids on. Now it's calming down i'm trying natural eczema cream which i used initially before seeing the specialist, and it helped heaps. But when i used them again, it didn't work? So hopefully it will again

hi crossmyfingers
That's exactly what tomi has on the bottom of the hairline on the back of his neck, a sort of birth mark looking patch that comes and goes , i used to put hydrocortison on it as i thought it was eczema or something that makes him itch but when i saw the dermatologist, she said it was birthmark and it gets red when the skin fills up with blood then it goes away so i never touched it since and it does come and go.
tomi's skin seems to be improving, he's not had a really bad flare for a while (it seems ages to me but im sure it's only been a few weeks) could be coz as soon as i see the red spots appear, i put hydrocortison on straight away and so by the morning they disappear. mind you i do put hydrocortison on evey day. really hope that it's not going to cause problems later.
the only thing that im sitll unsure about is he gets redness on random places like the side of his leg and the side of his arm. it looks like when they get carpet burn , it's bright red and hot, then it goes away and skin just goes back to normal. i don't really understand why it's happening
i wish i was at a stage where i could just try steroid free creams but im too scared of not using hydrocortison just in case the spots spread again.
the weather has been lovely here in the uk, first real sunsine and nice fresh air.
what is it like where you are? i think you mentioned it before but i forgot where you are. does it get very hot?

Anna Maria,
First - Please calm down; from reading your thread, I can feel your panicky and it's not so good as stress can be passed onto your child which may (or may not) be an eczema trigger
http://eczemablues.com/2011/02/what-triggers-itch/
Second - Don't give up on seeking a good specialist, one in children and also with another specialty related to eczema; If you can't, at least get allergy tests (which is usually available in children hospital)
Third - Keep moisturizing, I use 500ml per week, and I've read that your husband thinks dry skin without moisturizers will sort itself out - it won't.
http://eczemablues.com/2011/09/how-much ... is-enough/
Fourth - Topical steroid like hydrocortisone is ok, use as directed, usually no more than twice a day and thinly.

http://eczemablues.com/2011/04/is-steroid-cream-safe/
Fifth - Observe good skincare routines, chlorhexidine to kill staph bacteria

You can read my blog, do enjoy monday cartoons to relax. Enjoy your child as much as possible, i's very stressful but time flies, and they grow up. If watching TV helps distracting, go ahead, cut yourself slack. I let my baby watch sign language and it helps!

Re: Advice needed with baby's treatment
hi everyone
we are having a bit of a bad day, lo had a big flare up and im finding it difficult to get it under controll,
it's very disappointing as i almost started to think that things are getting better. since the age of about 8 week, i've had to use hydrocortison at least once a day somewhere on his body, in the last week or so it's got so much better that some days i did not have to use it at all.
then 2 days ago his tummy and back started to flare up and now both his torso and back are covered.
i only bath him twice a week but was wondering if it helps to have a bath with the emmolient when having a flare up or is it just making it worse?
also a qeustion to those who are experienced this,
is this how eczema works then as for us so far it's been a continuous but not too bad ezcema (but maybe because of the constant usage of hydrocortison) and now that i'd not used hydrocortison for a few days, there is a major flare up?
there was something i read about the cycle of eczema that there is clear skin for about 20 days then a flare up that can last up to 9-15 days, we never ever had clear skin for that long???
the only other thing that i can think of is that last week i ran out of simply pure washing tablets and thought i use up the remaining surcare non bio fragrance free washing liquid...
i was so happy at the beginning of this week that we got to a stage where i soo wanted to be where we don't have to use hydrocortison every day and now im so disappointed that we are back again...
anyway, hope someone can tell me if this is normal and it's just part of they cycle of eczema...
