DLA - Disability Living Allowance

Just wondering has any been succesful in applying for DLA?

I applied in early November and was told it takes about 6 weeks to get a decision. A couple of weeks ago I received a letter to say they were still looking into it. They are contacting the GP and Dermatologist for further information.

I seriously hope it doesn't get declined. I am claiming for my 4 year old son who's eczema is so severe he has been admitted to hospital on IV antobiotics a few times (including christmas day). You will all be fully aware of the care needed to look after such a severe eczema sufferer, with the bathing, medicines, appointments, application of creams. Not only this, the cost is unthinkable. I have to change/wash his bedding at least daily (sometimes halfway through the night also), buy new bedding and duvets almost weekly, and even go through a number of mattrasses each year. And that's before getting started on clothes and pyjamas. I can't work as my son needs constant attention.

My biggest frustration with Eczema is the lack of awareness people have of it. It is seen as just a bit of dry skin, and not a serious illness. If people were aware of the severity of it, maybe it would not be so difficult to claim DLA.

I found out today that within 24 hours i'll be admitted to hospital... I can't work obviously so i'm going to have to go stay with my mum and dad when i come out coz i wont be able to pay my rent. chances of my getting DLA= slim to none. Makes me so angry!

Has GP said that? Strange how they haven't just referred you.

I'm really hoping to get DLA, otherwise I will be appealing over and over again until they change their minds.

About a year ago, I applied for a Budgeting Loan for a new washing machine as mine broke, but I got declined. I sent a letter of appeal with lots of photos of my son, and I had the money in my account within days. So, fingers crossed.

No, i had my dermatology appointment today and she said she wanted to admit me. just waiting for the call to say the bed's free now... whilst doing a really good impression of an egyptian mummy! haha!

I hope they sort their act out for you! Maybe everyone suffering badly should get on to it! they might listen then!

The problem with the DLA is people take the P and apply for it with stupid little illnesses so I can understand that they have to be sceptical but it's not fair on the geniune people. I have just rang them and they told me that they sent out a form to the GP back in November and it wasn't returned, so they sent another one beginning of January. They said that they usually send a couple of reminders then if still not returned they just make a decision without it. I told them that is no good for me because if they are going to make a decision without the GP's report then I already no the outcome. Luckily, I rang the GP afterwards and they completed the report and sent it back on Friday so DLA should get it in next couple of days and I'll hopefully have a decision very soon

hi im longterm ive suffered with atopic excema for 52yrs now and im in receipt of disability living allowance can i say the trouble i had to obtain it i got refused three times then made an appeal on this time i was granted with it

if it wasnt for letters written for me by my medics and also the citizens advice bereau i dont think i would of ever got it i had to perservere can i also say while your on DLA I GET FREE PRESCRIPTIONS FREE DENTAL CARE ASWELL

i originally applied for the care component but was given the lower mobility my friends that are onit their on the higher rate they can claim a car on the mobility system

I know that if I do get it, it will be higher rate because my son needs constant care day and night. It's just the initial acceptance of the application haha. I will also get carers allowance. Obviously since my son is only 4 we don't pay for prescriptions anyway.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see, and be prepared to fight

both my children get DLA care component and this also increases tax credits. with high rate you can claim care allowance too. you should hear really soon.

Found out today I have been refused DLA Looks like I have a biggg fight on my hands. I am prepared to go as far as I have to so I hope they are prepared also.
