eye eczema
Hello, Last winter my eyes were both very red and itchy the doctor insisited that it was an eye infection and finally after 6 months it cleared up. Last week it returned this time I went to the optician to have my eyes checked and she said there was definitely no infection and it is eczema. The doctor has asked me to put hydrocortstine ointment around the eye both on the lid and underneath the eye to try and get it to clear up. Does anyone else have this problem and any other ideas on how to clear it up?
Many thanks
Many thanks

Re: eye eczema
Hi, That is so surreal I came to this sight because of the same thing. My eye dr told me to use cold washcloths for the itching and vaseline around the outer eye to mosturize. however, sometimes it flares so bad the inside gets so red and itchy. and I just wake up one day and it's there! I wish I had an answer for you. I hope someone has a different solution.

Re: eye eczema
hey there
I have eczema that covers my whole body - but it also gets very dry and sometimes sore around my eyes. I also get something called blepharitis when i have an allergic reaction to something - this is a swelling of the eyelid which is very uncomfortable and looks horrible. Using hydrocortisone and moisturiser is probably the best way i know to treat the eczema (not the blepharitis - that you have to get meds for). I wouldn't recommend using hydrocortisone for a long period of time - in the long run it will thin the skin. The most annoying thing about eczema (as it sounds you are new to it) is that there is no way to clear it up completely. once you have it - it will always come back, even if it clears for a while. I notice that my main triggers are stress and weather - any time the weather gets colder my skin gets worse. Also have you been allergy tested? may be worth having it checked in case the onset of your eczema was caused by an allergic reaction.
anyway good luck with it. hope it gets better soon x

Re: eye eczema
Hi there!
I recently had an acute phase of eye eczema, usual stuff, itchy, red, non stop weeping (I have atopic eczema and tend to suffer when under stress). With my last episode I stopped using water on my face as it was a hard water area and ever since have used Body shop Aloe vera cleanser and toner, anyway clearly the water wasnt the issue this time and my dad recommended me to use Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo no tears. I was bit "what??" but this really helped me.
You wet some cotton wool and put a tiny drop of the shampoo on the cotton wool and then cleanse the eye with it, then wipe clean with another piece of cotton wool - I used it 3 times a day or whenever my eyes felt really itchy, for some reason it really stops the itching thereby reducing the eczema. My dad was told to do this by a Consultant many years ago when he problems with his eyes and apparently the shampoo cleans the skin/eyelashes, almost like cleaning dandruff from your eyes if you get what I mean!
Having suffered many years I find what will work for me one episode will not work for the me the next and to be honest i'm not a fan of steriod creams at all (having gone through every brand possible) so for the past 10 years or so I've stuck to alternative remedies.
Unfortunatley its all trial and error in finding something that actually works - but i hope this may help other suffers
